Itinerary
The spirit of the Southwest is calling! Escape to beautiful New Mexico, and take a scenic train ride through the Rocky Mountains. Be enchanted by the iconic Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and more on this amazing adventure.
Day 1 // Amarillo, TX
Our destination for the week is the “Land of Enchantment”. Board our deluxe motorcoach this morning in anticipation of an exciting adventure. Tonight, enjoy an included dinner.
Day 2 // Albuquerque, NM
Learn about Pueblo culture from ancient times to the present in the beautiful museum and exhibition galleries at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Tour their collection of murals by Pueblo artists, enjoy lunch provided by the Indian Pueblo Kitchen, an innovative teaching kitchen and restaurant. Then shop at the Indian Pueblo Store for traditional and contemporary jewelry, pottery, rugs, and more from award‐winning, internationally renowned artists as well as emerging talents.
Day 3 // Albuquerque, NM
We will be up early this morning for our first morning at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. This morning, witness hundreds of prismatic balloons lift off and fill the horizon. This makes for a truly one-of-a-kind photo op! Pilots compete in various skills tests and show off the amazing precision and knowledge it takes to take the helm of one of these aircraft. This afternoon we are joined by a local guide who will take us on a historic city tour. Enjoy some free time in Old Town before heading back to the hotel for the night.
Day 4 // Santa Fe, NM
After a good night's sleep we return early to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta field for our second opportunity to see the sky filled with wonderful shapes and colors. Walk through the launch field and talk with pilots and their crews. It's not hard to see why this event draws so many people, from full time balloon chasers to first time spectators. Then off to Santa Fe, where we enjoy lunch together before having a tour of the city, including the opportunity to visit Loretto Chapel, which boasts a miraculous staircase reportedly built by St. Joseph. It's simple, beautiful craftsmanship is a wonder to behold.
Day 5 // Alamosa, CO
All aboard! Today we'll experience fall in the Rocky Mountains as we ride the rails of one of the best train rides in the Nation! The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the nation's highest and longest narrow gauge railroad. Experience the best of the west, as the coal-fired steam engine carries us through steep mountain canyons, high desert and lush meadows. This scenic journey chugs around Whiplash Curve, passes through Mud and Rock Tunnels and along the lip of Toltec Gorge. A hearty lunch is included along the way.
Day 6 // Dodge City, KS
Today we have a gorgeous drive through the Sangre de Christo Mountains toward Pueblo, CO. Here we visit a little known gem, the Rosemount Museum. Built in 1893, the 37-room mansion was home to the John A. and Margaret Thatcher family and was named for Mrs. Thatcher’s favorite flower. Nearly all furnishings, accessories, decorative arts, paintings, custom woodwork, wall and window treatments are original to the home. You will see why it has earned the nickname, “Colorado’s Crown Jewel.” Then on to Dodge, KS for the night.
Day 7 // Home
First we will take a bit of time to explore the collections at the Boot Hill Museum. The trip comes to an end today, but the memories we have made will last a lifetime!
