Itinerary
Day 1 // Des Moines, IA
Our adventure begins today! Arrive in Des Moines for the first of our four night stay.
Day 2 // Des Moines, IA
Visited and treasured by people from around the world, the covered bridges of Madison County were built in the late 1800s and are ours to explore today on a guided bridge tour. We will visit the birthplace of John Wayne, decorated with fascinating memorabilia from some of his most beloved movies. Next we will take a guided tour of Salisbury House. This 42-room mansion nestled on a ten-acre estate of woodlands is modeled after the King's house in Salisbury, England and is a truly majestic site.
Day 3 // Des Moines, IA
This morning we will begin by going backwards in time. The Living History Farms is unique in that it utilizes two separate tracks of land. The 1876 town fills up one portion, and the 3 farms spanning 1700-1900 make up the other. Following our time here, a delicious group lunch awaits. The Iowa State Capitol is the only 5-domed capitol in the US, and the 29 types of marble used in its construction make it a truly beautiful building to tour this afternoon.
Day 4 // Des Moines, IA
In the spring, Pella comes alive with tulips, costumes, parades, food, and fun. Today, thousands of residents will don costumes and celebrate their Dutch heritage for a fun-filled weekend! We will visit the Pella Historical Village, watch the parade, and explore the arts and crafts fair at this annual festival. Before heading back to our hotel for the evening, we will watch a performance and enjoy one last delicious dinner with fellow travelers.
Day 5 // Home
Relax in comfort today as our driver takes us safely back home and reflect on the sights and sounds of our busy week.
