Itinerary

Day 1 // Palm Springs, CA

Today we board our flight for sunny California! This evening we will have a scenic dinner among the cliffs over the Chino Canyon by taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tram Ride

Day 2 // San Diego, CA

After spending some time exploring Palm Springs, we will head to San Diego. Known for its temperate climate and extensive beaches and parks, San Diego is often referred to as the birthplace of California. This evening we will have free time to explore the waterfront area located near our hotel.

Day 3 // San Diego, CA

This morning we will be checking out the San Diego Zoo, consistently ranked as one of the top 10 zoos in the nation. Included in admission is their aerial tram ride over the zoo, as well as their 35 min bus tour. This afternoon will appeal to the lovers of history as we explore the USS Midway Museum. As the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, there is much to see aboard this large Navy vessel, and plenty of stories to read about from those who sailed her across the seas.

Day 4 // Norwalk, CA

in ride from San Diego to Los Angeles. Once there, a step-on guide will take us around the city and show us some of the highlights that make up this City of Angels. There will be some free-time this evening to do some shopping and exploring in this fascinating city.

Day 5 // Norwalk, CA

Santa Catalina Island is one of the Channel Islands off of the coast of California and today we are taking a ferry boat over to check it out. After lunch, we will board a 'submarine' of sorts. The belly of this vessel will allow us to stay dry as we drop about 6' under the surface of the water to see the local fish in their native habitat. Later this afternoon we will take a guided tour of the Catalina Casino. Home of a large ballroom and movie theater, it is the host of the annual Catalina Film Festival and it has even been used as the setting for some movies you may recognize.

Day 6 // Santa Clarita, CA

You can't go to LA without a tour of one of the film studios that make this city such a cultural hub. Speaking of culture, this afternoon we will be checking out the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Through the use of wide-ranging exhibits and interactive experiences, there is much to learn about in this large museum. A guided tour will help us to see it all, and some time on your own will let you take a closer look at the things that interest you most.

Day 7 // Oakhurst, CA

Today will we travel through the Kings Canyon National Park. Home of the famous General Grant giant sequoia, the sizes of these trees are sure to make you stand in awe at what nature can do. Dinner will be included tonight at a local favorite.

Day 8 // Gilroy, CA

A step-on guide will join us this morning to help us see as much of Yosemite National Park as possible in the time we have available. We will see the truly breathtaking view of the Yosemite Valley as we emerge from the mountain tunnel into a beautiful picturesque landscape. Tonight's dinner is in the Old City Hall, a unique building that was once the home of the mayor's office, a jail, and a fire department.

Day 9 // San Francisco, CA

Today we will be joined by another step-on guide, this time to spend the day in Salinas Valley. We will tour local area farms and learn about the agriculture of this part of California. After lunch we will drive to Pebble Beach to look at the scenery and maybe even catch a glimpse of the local marine wildlife.

Day 10 // San Francisco, CA

Once a civil war fort, a military prison, and one of the most notorious federal penitentiaries in the US, today we visit the famed Alcatraz Island. A self-guided audio tour will let you go at your own pace as you explore this 'escape-proof' island prison. This afternoon a step-on guide will show us around San Francisco, the City by the Bay. Cruise up and down the rolling streets and see if you can recognize any of the iconic sights. We will end our day with free time on our own to check out the famous Fisherman's Wharf. Shopping, dining, activities, and more are all at your disposal this evening, just a short walk from our hotel tonight.

Day 11 // Sacramento, CA

No visit to California would be complete without checking out a Napa Valley winery. The Castello Di Amorosa is a 14th century Tuscan inspired castle, completed in 2007. Over 8,000 tons of hand-chiseled local stone and 200 containers of materials and furnishings were brought in from Europe to furnish this expansive castle, including the moat, drawbridge, armory, and torture chamber. Following a guided tour, we will partake of a wine sampling this morning. This afternoon we will jump forward in time from the 14th century to the 1860's as we visit the California State Railroad Museum. The museum is home to 225,000 square-feet of exhibits and beautifully restored railroad cars and locomotives which illustrate railroad history in California and the West.

Day 12 // Carson City, NV

Lake Tahoe is the 3rd deepest lake in North America, and is known for its beaches and ski resorts. The highlight of our day will be our lunchtime boat cruise as we journey over the crystal clear lake water. This afternoon will find us at the Nevada State Museum. This small but powerful museum is a tribute to the early settlers, miners, and Native Americans who settled in the West and made it their home.

Day 13 // Home

Historic Virginia City had its heyday when the Comstock Lode silver vein was discovered and sent people flocking to the small town. Our step-on guide will show us around and give us the history of the area and the roll it played in the development of the West. We will have some free time to pick up the last few souvenirs from our fabulous trip before we head over to the airport to check in for our flights home. There is so much to see and do in California and we've only touched on some of it. On the ride home you will have time to reflect on which parts were your favorite, and which ones you'll have to come back to visit again.
