Itinerary

Explore the best the Great Lakes has to offer, including a two-night stay on Mackinac Island. Visit charming lighthouses, enjoy the summer blossoms, visit Upper Tahquamenon Falls State Park, and more on this 9-day getaway!

Day 1 // St. Louis, MO

Our journey north begins today. Travel across the Show Me State, eagerly anticipating our grand adventure. The Great Lakes are dotted with charming lighthouses and rolling waves, and our itinerary is filled with fun activities.

Day 2 // Holland, MI

This morning we continue north, watching the landscape change from the Midwest prairielands to the hills of the Great Lakes region. The long travel day will be worth it, though, when we end our journey with a relaxing dinner boat cruise on Lake Michigan.

Day 3 // Cadillac, MI

The picturesque community of Whitehall plays host to a number of historical gems including the unforgettable White River Light Station. Built in 1875, the lighthouse contains artifacts of the Great Lakes origin and stories of the family that was responsible for the lighthouse. A thrilling sand dune ride among the windswept scenic Michigan dunes.

Day 4 // Mackinac Island, MI

This morning we will visit Castle Farms, where we will be treated to a special lunch and given time to explore acres of gardens and experience Michigan's largest outdoor model railroad. The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse serves as a monument to the area's shipping industry in the often fog-choked straits of Mackinac. The breathtaking beauty of Mackinac Island awaits us a short ferry ride away. The island's old-fashioned atmosphere makes our visit peacefully quiet without the roar of motorized vehicles.

Day 5 // Mackinac Island, MI

Our morning begins with a carriage tour through scenic vistas and the colossal limestone formation, Arch Rock. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the beautiful and historic Grand Hotel and the rest of the day is free time for shopping and exploring the things that interest you most. Perhaps you might choose to visit Fort Mackinac, rent a bicycle to cruise along the harbor, or pick up some of the island's famous fudge to take back home.

Day 6 // Escanaba, MI

This morning we will return to the mainland and visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Whitefish Point Light Station is home to the oldest operating lighthouse on Lake Superior and houses this fascinating museum. Learn how closely connected the history of this region is to the seafaring way of life. After lunch, enter the Upper Tahquamenon Falls State Park, where the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi roars in all its glory.

Day 7 // Milwaukee, WI

Today we will tour Lambeau Field, home of the Greenbay Packers! Explore the stadium, see behind-the-scenes, and stop the Hall of Fame to learn about Cheesehead history. Lunch at the stadium is included. Over 130 years ago, North Pointe Lighthouse was constructed on the bluffs of Lake Michigan. and today we will stop and marvel at its beauty.

Day 8 // Des Moines, IA

We wouldn't dare leave Wisconsin without first stopping for some of their famous cheese! Alp & Dell Cheese has the largest variety of Wisconsin cheese curds in an array of flavors. With your snacks in tow, we'll cross state lines and arrive in Iowa for the evening.
