Itinerary

Experience spectacular fall foliage on a journey to Agawa Canyon, visiting some Midwestern treasures along the way. This classic adventure also features scenic Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island, Chicago, and more!

Day 1 // Des Moines, IA

Our long-awaited adventure gets underway today. Sit back and relax as we make our way to the heart of Iowa.

Day 2 // Tomah, WI

Yes, it's real. The SPAM Museum is filled with interactive exhibits that share the iconic history of America's favorite canned meat. After lunch, tour the historic Hormel House Museum. Home of the founders of Hormel Foods, this beautiful building and grounds are worth a look before we continue on our journey north. Enjoy dinner in La Crosse tonight.

Day 3 // Manitowoc, WI

We begin our morning at a local cranberry farm for a guided tour and lunch. This afternoon finds us at the LaClare Creamery, where they make their own goat cheese. Visit with some of the goats and learn about the interesting process of turning milk into to cheese.

Day 4 // Ludington, MI

The wide variety of displays make the Wisconsin Maritime Museum an interesting stop this morning. You can even venture down into a submarine if you dare. We are spending the late afternoon aboard the SS Badger, Lake Michigan's large car ferry vessel. There is much to do aboard the ship; bingo, movies, a museum, gift shop, or just relaxing on the deck. This is such an interesting way travel as we continue on our way.

Day 5 // Sault Ste. Marie, MI

We continue our journey north today as we head toward the highlights of our trip, Agawa Canyon & Mackinac Island! This evening you will enjoy a leisurely dinner cruise on St Mary's River and experience “locking through the Soo Locks.”

Day 6 // Sault Ste. Marie, MI

All aboard for our all-day Agawa Canyon Train Excursion. Witness the surrounding beauty as we travel along pristine lakes set amidst a kaleidoscope of early autumn color. Cross the mighty Montreal River on a trestle bridge and descend over 500-feet to pass through the rugged wilderness to the canyon floor.

Day 7 // Mackinac Island, MI

The breathtaking beauty of Mackinac Island awaits us a short ferry ride away. The island's old fashioned atmosphere makes our visit peacefully quiet without the roar of motorized vehicles. Our time here begins with a horse-drawn carriage tour through the charming island. Then enjoy a scrumptious lunch at the beautiful Grand Hotel with plenty of time this afternoon to explore the island on your own.

Day 8 // South Bend, IN

Car lovers and history buffs alike will love the Studebaker National Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of U.S. Presidential Carriages and a collection of historic Studebaker military vehicles. A delicious dinner is included tonight.

Day 9 // Romeoville, IL

Experience a taste of the Windy City today. We are joined by a sharply dressed guide for a Chicago city tour highlighting events from Chicago's more illicit past. This afternoon we have some free time near the waterfront at the Navy Pier.

Day 10 // St. Louis, MO

In 1861, Abraham Lincoln left his Springfield home of 17 years to serve as the 16th President of the United States. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum offers immersive displays and shows that allow visitors to experience the history of the Lincoln family like never before. With artifacts and historical accounts that aren't found anywhere else in the world, visitors will feel like they are walking in Lincoln's shoes.

Day 11 // Home

On our way home, enjoy a lunch while relishing the memories of our travels, from our relaxing countryside exploration, to the adventures of the big city as we discover the richness of the historic Midwest.
