Itinerary
Explore the most majestic canyons, deserts and landscapes on Earth. Featuring four of our nation’s most magnificent National Parks; Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Arches all during one spectacular, 11-day tour!
Day 1 // Amarillo, TX
We set out along the legendary Route 66, tracing its path from Chicago to Santa Monica. At the Route 66 Museum, murals and vignettes walk us through all eight states the “Mother Road” crosses.
Day 2 // Ignacio, CO
This morning we visit Albuquerque’s International Balloon Museum, celebrating the city’s status as home to the world’s largest hot air balloon festival. We continue through the Rockies to Ignacio, where the Sky Ute Casino Resort welcomes us for dinner and an evening of gaming on your own.
Day 3 // Chinle, AZ
All aboard the legendary Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a coal-fired steam train that has carried passengers through since 1882. Lunch served along the way.
Day 4 // Flagstaff, AZ
This morning a Navajo guide leads us into Canyon de Chelly by jeep, sharing the history and legends carried by his people across this Navajo Nation land. We take in sweeping sandstone formations and ancient rock art.
Day 5 // Flagstaff, AZ
This morning we tour Sedona and visit iconic sites like Thunder Mountain, Cathedral Rock, Boynton Canyon and so much more. This afternoon we browse Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, a Spanish colonial-style enclave of galleries and artisan studios beneath the sycamores, then close the day with a self-guided visit to the Sedona Heritage Museum.
Day 6 // Page, AZ
The Grand Canyon awaits! We begin with an IMAX presentation at the National Geographic Visitor Center before heading to the South Rim, where sweeping views reveal millions of years of layered rock. Lunch is included as we take in one of the world’s great natural wonders.
Day 7 // Bryce Canyon, UT
Zion National Park unfolds before us today, its 229 square miles holding towering cliffs and narrow sandstone canyons. A tram ride along Zion Canyon Scenic Drive highlights the Emerald Pools, the Riverside Walk and the Narrows, where vivid red and pink rock walls rise straight from the canyon floor.
Day 8 // Green River, UT
Bryce Canyon National Park greets us with its famous crimson hoodoos — spire-shaped formations carved by wind, water and snow over millions of years. We wind along the canyon rim, climbing nearly 2,000 feet, with dinner included this evening
Day 9 // Glenwood Springs, CO
Arches National Park holds the greatest concentration of natural stone arches in the world — over 2,000 of them. Layers of rock throughout the park record millions of years of erosion still shaping the landscape today.
Day 10 // Burlington, CO
Colorado’s Rocky Mountain scenery accompanies us for much of today’s drive. We stop at the Argo Gold Mill* and Tunnel, once a hub of the state’s gold rush, for a look at the mining history and technology that helped build the West.
Day 11 // Home
We may be traveling home today through the plains of Kansas, but we’ll never forget the beauty of our journey this year.
